This year Greater Manchester was awarded 3 Star status by the EU as a Reference Site for Active and Healthy Ageing. This is the first time the region has been given this accolade which is granted to organisations who have demonstrated excellence in the development, adopting and scaling up of innovative practices for active and healthy ageing, in line with the strategic objectives of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA) and particularly the European Scaling Up Strategy for Innovation in Active and Healthy Ageing.
The Greater Manchester Ageing Hub was established so that GM partners can coordinate a strategic response to the opportunities and challenges of an ageing population. The Hub works to ensure that ageing is reflected across all appropriate GM implementation plans, and bring together existing activities and structures to work collaboratively to design and develop thinking, new ideas and interventions; developing economic opportunities and enabling people to live longer, happier and healthier lives.
The January 2017 Ecosystem meeting explored the possibilities for industry, academia, the NHS and Social Organisations to collaborate to help deliver the strategic priorities of the GM Ageing Hub:
